Koby McMahon

Koby McMahon is entering the 2023 season in his first year as an Assistant Coach for the Berry College Men’s Lacrosse program. McMahon arrives from Hood College in Frederick, MD, where he spent the previous three seasons as the Defensive Coordinator, working closely with that unit and the goalies. From 2020 to 2022, McMahon was involved in all aspects of the Hood College Men’s Lacrosse program, including recruiting, scouting, practice planning, and player development.

In 2020, the Blazer defense and goalie unit posted a 10.44 goals against average, ranking fourth in the conference. The Blazers also posted an average of 43.17 groundballs per game, ranking first in the conference. In 2021, the Blazers accomplished a lot of program firsts- attaining the highest conference winning percentage and highest conference playoff seeding in program history in the MAC Commonwealth. The man-down unit stopped opponents at a rate of 75%, ranking second in the conference. In 9 conference games, the goalie unit made 141 total saves and compiled a 57.8% save percentage, ranking third in the conference. In 2022, the Blazer defense caused 181 turnovers, ranking third in the conference. The man-down unit stopped opponents at a rate of 76.9%, also ranking third in the conference. 

Prior to his arrival at Hood College, McMahon was a four-year goalie and two-time captain for the Ferrum College Men’s Lacrosse program from 2016 to 2019. During his time there, he started 48 games for the Panthers. He is the all-time leader in career wins, saves, and ground balls for the program. McMahon made the SEILC All-Conference and All-Tournament Teams in 2016 while helping lead his team to the SEILC Championship that year. In 2018, the Panthers finished seventh in the country in clearing percentage (89%) and fourth in the country in man-down percentage (85%) in all of DIII. McMahon attained Academic Conference Honors all four years. After graduating in 2019, he was awarded the first-ever Men’s Lacrosse Academic Excellence Award, which is now given to the highest GPA member of the lacrosse team each season.

McMahon graduated with a 4.0 GPA and a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology from Ferrum College in 2019. He also graduated from St. Mary’s Annapolis High School in 2015. McMahon was a member of the St. Mary’s Saints squad that won the 2015 MIAA A Championship, the top high school boys lacrosse conference in the country. McMahon currently has his Master of Business Administration from Hood College and is USA certified in both lacrosse coaching and weightlifting. A native of Annapolis, MD, McMahon currently resides in Rome, GA.
